The Sanderson Brothers:
Three brothers, James, Raburn & Alton, served on the USS LA during the 1950s

"There is so little time"

This photo is from the 1958-59 cruise book.  In August 1958, the island of Quemoy was under fire from Communist China & the USS LA had been ordered to depart immediately to support Formosa against this aggression.  Before the ship departed from Long Beach on 27 August 1958, there were many sad farewells on the dock & aboard the ship.

The following information about the photo was supplied by Gary Sanderson, whose father James served on the ship during the 1957-58 cruise.  The photo shows Raburn Sanderson surrounded by his brother James' children.  Gary Sanderson is shown standing behind his uncle Raburn, while Gary's sister's are Pamela (left), Doreen & Barbara.

Both James and Raburn Sanderson have passed away, but Gary's uncle Alton lives in Oklahoma.
