USS Los Angeles Stories

The ship was off Pt Mugu, in 1960, for a Regulus test firing, in a dense fog!
The Pt Mugu controller asked for the weather condition, at our location (it
had to be clear for successful firing). The Captain was impatient and wanted
to get the test over and get back to port, so he said, "Tell them it is all
clear." The controller called back and asked that the message be repeated, as
the transmission was cut out by the ship's foghorn. Upshot was that we stayed
on station until the next day for clear weather and successful firing. I know
this happened, being the comm officer I was on the bridge.
