USS Los Angeles CA-135 Model
at Navy Golf Course
The model of the USS Los Angeles was originally built at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard and was used by the Recruiting Command in Los Angeles for many years. The model has been "retired" to a water trap at the 9th hole of the US Navy Golf Course in Cypress, CA. The golf course is part of the Naval Weapons Station, Seal Beach.

In the photo above (from The Register, Orange County, CA), Ken Sporcich is giving the ship a clean sweep-down, fore and aft.  Ken, who retired from the Long Beach Naval Shipyard (LBNSY) in 1997, is a volunteer at the golf course and participated in refurbishing the ship model and currently maintains it.   The CA-135 model was built (1960-1970s) at LBNSY and was in storage for many years at US Naval Weapons Station, Seal Beach, before being put on display at the golf course.

The information on this page was provided by Jim Whitt, who recently took the three (3) photos below during a visit to the model.  The same ship model was on display during the 1995 reunion in San Pedro - see the last photo below.

The first picture below is of Jim Whitt standing in front of a plaque telling about the model.  The other photos are views of the model at the golf course.

The last photo below is of the model at the 1995 reunion in San Pedro.
